Funny River Beads
Alaska has always held a special place in my heart. I moved here as a child and have spent the past 20 years working here, commuting back and forth from the NQ house in Washington. It was in Alaska where I caught my first trout on a bead, and that moment sparked the creation of Never Quit Fishing. Inspired by that experience, I set out to design a unique line of beads specifically for Alaskan waters, beads that go beyond the typical options in the NQ lineup and truly serve the needs of this region.
The idea for Funny River Beads (FRB) came to me during the summer of 2024 while fishing on the Kenai River, one of the most remarkable places on Earth. The rainbow trout and Dolly Varden fishing there is unmatched action and incredible fun. I wanted to create beads that would not only help me catch fish but also allow others to create unforgettable Alaskan fishing memories.
FRB will offer a carefully curated selection of beads in 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm sizes, with colors that mimic the full spectrum of the river’s egg cycle, from freshly laid eggs early in the season to the later season dead eggs, and everything in between. Each FRB bead is made from high-durometer soft plastic, providing the perfect balance of suppleness and strength, ensuring they stand up to the demanding conditions of Alaskan fishing.
Funny River Beads (FRB) will be available at select Alaskan fishing shops, starting with Mossy’s Fly Shop in Anchorage, providing local anglers with the opportunity to purchase them directly. Additionally, we will offer custom orders and very limited releases through the NQ website, ensuring that these beads remain a truly special and exclusive Alaskan product. This approach is designed to maintain a sense of rarity and exceptional quality, perfectly capturing the unique experience of fishing in Alaska.
All of the FRB logo art is created by talented Indigenous artists, each bringing their own unique style and perspective to their work. Their incredible talent and cultural insight are reflected in their interpretations of a salmon egg, making each design a meaningful and authentic representation of Alaska’s rich heritage. These artworks not only honor the artists’ traditions but also celebrate the deep connection between the land, the waters, and the fish that define Alaska.
